Reimbursement

In Belgium, partial reimbursement is provided by the health insurance fund for:
• Early orthodontic treatment (up to the age of 9)
• Standard orthodontic treatment, provided that the application is submitted before the 15th birthday

An approved application remains valid for 2 years. The treatment must begin within this period. If that is not possible due to factors such as the nature of the condition or the patient’s growth development, an application under reserve (aanvraag ten bewarende titel) can be submitted. This remains valid for treatments up to the 22nd birthday.

Since January 2021, most health insurance funds also offer an additional reimbursement, on top of the standard one.

An extra reimbursement is also possible via a supplementary dental insurance plan — through your health insurance fund, a private institution, or possibly via your employer’s group insurance.

As the conditions may vary by health insurance fund or provider, we recommend checking individually what exactly you are entitled to.

Note: For adults, no reimbursement is provided through the health insurance fund, but it may be possible through additional dental insurance.
